The Finnish ensemble Tango del Norte is an award-winning tango group that has earned accolades in international competitions; its journey began in 2011 with the music of Astor Piazzolla. For over a decade, the ensemble’s musicians have studied tango under Argentina’s finest musicians. The result is a polished sound that draws admiration and praise from audiences concert after concert.
Tango del norte has performed over 300 concerts throughout Finland and has also appeared at tango festivals in Spain, Poland, and Sweden. Upcoming in the 2025–2026 winter season are tours in Argentina and Spain. In 2021, Tango del Norte won second prize at the international “Astor Piazzolla – Città di Trani 2021” competition in Italy, held in honor of the 100th anniversary of Astor Piazzolla’s birth. In 2018, the ensemble’s bandoneonist Sami Pirttilahti won the international “Che Bandoneon” competition in the United States.
Over the years, Tango del norte has collaborated with numerous top tango musicians and vocal soloists from Finland and abroad. In 2016, Tango del norte released the CD “Raíces de pasión” together with Argentine singer Romina Bianco, and in 2018, the duo album “Solos & Duos,” which garnered excellent reviews, was released. In 2025, the band released their third album, “Argentiinalaisittain.” In October 2025, the new album will also be released in Argentina during a short concert tour.
Tango del Norte is a band that captivates with its music and charms its audience with its humor.
The concert is a non-intermission, approximately one-hour-long program centered around Argentine tango music. The program features both brand-new arrangements and familiar Tango del Norte hits, ranging from more traditional Argentine and Finnish tango classics to the music of Astor Piazzolla.
